Conference Theme: Exploring the multiple dimensions of data life through critical data studies<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The DATA LIFE Conference invites scholars, researchers, and practitioners to submit papers that delve into the complexities and implications of data in our world. As data becomes an increasingly integral part of our lives, it is vital to critically examine the power dynamics, ethical issues, and social impacts associated with its production, management, and use. The conference will be opened and closed by two keynote speakers: <\/span>Rob Kitchin<\/span><\/b><\/a> (Maynooth University) and <\/span>Stefania Milan<\/span><\/b><\/a> (Amsterdam University). DATA LIFE is a one-day conference co-organised by <\/span>INTERSECT<\/span><\/a> research group, <\/span>DATA LOSS<\/span><\/a> and DATA STORIES ERC-projects, the <\/span>Center for Culture and Technology<\/span><\/a> (SDU) and the <\/span>Aesthetics of Bio-Machines<\/span><\/a> project.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

We welcome contributions that explore, but are not limited to, the following themes:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Data Power:<\/span><\/b> examining power structures in the collection, processing and use of data;<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Data Justice:<\/span><\/b> analysing inequalities and biases in data systems and algorithms;<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Histories and Cultures of Data: <\/span><\/b>historical and cultural perspectives on the evolution of data management practices;<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Data Policies and Regulations:<\/span><\/b> challenges and opportunities in local and global data governance.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Submission Guidelines<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

    Papers presented at the conference should critically explore the data ecosystem, politics, practices, and power dynamics inherent in the life of data. We encourage interdisciplinary research and welcome a diverse range of methodologies, including but not limited to:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    1. Artistic practice-based methodologies<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Data-driven Geographic Information Systems (GIS) method<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. Methodological innovations<\/span><\/li>\n
    4. Empirical case studies<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Submissions should contribute to a deeper understanding of the ways in which data shapes and is shaped by various forces in society.<\/span><\/p>\n
